Rogues' Memories - Adventures with Rex Wotton.

Not very often will one come across real adventurers who have a fearless spirit of adventure and a capitivating sense of joy. This was Rex Wotton, a sailor, climber, scuba diver, and a great sport.  Rex Wotton managed the West Coast Watersports center at Coral Reef hotel. It was just a short walk from Settlers Beach. They took hotel guest diving and on daytime and sunset cruises around the coast. He was an expert seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in navigation, and marine work. Rex was among the most loveable Rogues of Barbados. His sense of fun and sharp wit surrounded every situation. Rex was independent at an early age and often disappeared for days at a time, to camp by Joes' river . He built campfires from coconut husk and twigs and cooked his catch with breadfruit, wild herbs, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grow along the beach.

Sailing to St. Vincent with a friend at age 11 testifies to his sense of adventure. He urged many other to take with him in high jinks and outrageous excursions, making it all look safe, effortless, and fun. Generally daring, he took extreme but calculated risks.
